LEADERSHIP COUNCIL
In line with youth development models used across the nation, the WAPI Youth Leadership Council is a "youth driven" prevention program. By youth driven, we mean that youth participate in decision making and integral planning and process. Adults have limited involvment in direct decisions, dealing more with administrative duties for the council.

HOW IT WORKS
Youth join the council on a voluntary basis and receive leadership development workshops, leadership experience and resiliency skill building. The goal of the leadership council is to increase protective factors surrounding youth and providing for a safe space to learn and challenge themselves. Powered by the best practice "Leadership and Resiliency Program (LRP) the youth council meets weekly, performs monthly community service, and participates in monthly activities ranging from hiking and camping to music production and t-shirt making.

Youth participating in the leadership council also receive education on key social justice issues and cultural identity. Self-expression through the arts and music is also a key element of the leadership council. Self-expression creates an avenue for youth to express their feelings in a more culturally relevant way.
