KATALYST
The Katalyst Program is WAPI's hip hop education program. Geared towards teen youth of color, the Katalyst program provides access to recording and production equipment as well as technical training.

HOW IT WORKS
The Katalyst program, coordinated by DJ B-Girl of B-Girl Media, is a 3-month series of weekly workshops in graffiti and music. Youth in the music classes, led by Mic Flont of Think Tank Productions, get hands on experience working with Macintosh computers, Pro-Tools software, and industry standard audio recording equipment. Youth taking the graffiti classes, led by King Khazm of 206 Zulu and Maya aka Zelot, explore urban art design, composition and various techniques. Both classes culminate in a final project that is presented at a youth organized, all-ages show at the end of the session.
